KBR to Acquire SGT

Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies, Inc., headquartered in Greenbelt, Maryland, announces a definitive agreement has been signed between SGT and KBR for the purchase of SGT. SGT, a privately held company, began operations in December 1994. Owners, Dr. Kam Ghaffarian and Harold Stinger joined forces with the objective to exceed customer expectations, provide rewarding opportunities for employees, operate with the utmost integrity and enjoy the journey.

The two worked hard to beat the odds and successfully graduated from the 8(a) program in 2005, then moved to full and open opportunities. For the last decade, SGT has been successfully operating and competing in the government marketplace as a large business government contractor. “Today we embark on an exciting new chapter in the SGT journey,” commented President and CEO, Dr. Kam Ghaffarian. “Over the last 22 years we have relentlessly worked hard to create a company that brings value to everything we do. By joining forces with KBRwyle we will be able to offer a broader set of service offerings to our customers, give our workforce more opportunities and bring a stronger set of solutions to the marketplace. Even more importantly, the two entities have strong business synergies and culture alignment that will enable us to continue to exceed customer expectations and be very competitive in the marketplace.”

“We are excited to bring SGT into the KBR family.” said Stuart Bradie, KBR President and CEO. “There is a strong cultural fit. Like KBR, SGT is a people company that operates with integrity and delivers strong results by putting customers and employees at the forefront of everything they do.”

The transaction is expected to close around the end of the first quarter. Once closed SGT will operate as a business unit within KBR’s global Government Services business, KBRwyle with Kam Ghaffarian and the SGT management team remaining intact.

SGT Receives VPP STAR Status

Greenbelt, MD USA – SGT is proud to announce their certification by Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) at the Goddard Corporate Park (GCP) location as a MD STAR Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) site.

VPP STAR status is the highest VPP designation awarded by MOSH and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), given only to sites that meet the rigorous standards which are verified by experts during on-site inspections. VPP status is sought by companies that wish to communicate to their employees, customers and communities that they have moved beyond simply complying with applicable safety regulations and are engaged in additional, voluntary levels of proactive safety activities and awareness. Companies earning VPP STAR status have achieved injury and illness rates below the national average in their respective industry and have demonstrated to MOSH/OSHA that their safety and health management systems are exemplary. In addition, STAR participants commit to continuous safety improvements that will lead to a safer work place.

As MOSH/OSHA audits a facility, they look for: management’s commitment to health and safety, employee involvement in and awareness of safety programs and procedures, and ongoing hazard analysis and mitigation programs. After auditors interviewed employees, reviewed procedures and inspected work it was apparent VPP is a daily part of life at GCP. The MOSH VPP Manager, Allen Stump, stated the team at GCP has “done an amazing job of transforming the safety and health management system at SGT into one of the best in the State and within the Nation. SGT joins an elite group of employers that have fully partnered with their employees to provide a healthful and safe workplace.”

The SGT GCP location is the 20th site in Maryland to achieve VPP STAR.
